History of TVRN
Those of you with long memories may recall an organisation called Thames Valley Provider Network (TVPN), the original network for providers in the area covered by Thames Valley Training & Enterprise Council (TVE). This group used to meet at Berkshire College of Agriculture and I think all who attended would agree it was a bit of a ‘winge/moan’ session. There always seemed to be issues with TVE and providers. A representative of TVE was invited for part of the meeting but never allowed to stay for the whole event. TVPN was not an official entity and only existed to allow discussion, a member undertook the role of treasurer and they took it in turns to do the minutes and other admin tasks.
In 2001 TVE was disbanded and the providers were split into two groups, those based in Berkshire came under the wing of Berkshire LSC and those in Buckinghamshire under the wing of Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire LSC (MKOB). Two new provider groups emerged, one for Berkshire (BTPN) and one for MKOB (MOBNET). It quickly became apparent that the old style support offered by the TECs was not available from the LSCs and that there needed to be a much stronger group to represent providers’ interests. Legal Entities were set up for both groups and so allow access to LSC funding.
In 2006 MKOB and Berkshire LSCs were merged to form Thames Valley LSC and the two provider networks entered into discussions about how they could continue to support the members. It was decided to merge and offer one network covering the whole region. The new organisation would be call Thames Valley Regional Network (TVRN) almost full circle from where the group had started out, and the rest as they say is history…..
